Frequently asked questions
What is the best way to regas car air conditioning?
The easiest and safest way to get this done is to bring your car in to your trusted local mechanic for inspection and maintenance. You can easily contact Auto Masters online to enquire or book in a job. Most problems of this type can be put to rights fairly easily by conducting a gas leak check, followed by a complete evacuation and refill of your refrigerant. Don’t risk the DIY damage if something’s not right with your vehicle – visit our licensed technicians instead to get the job done properly.
How to tell if your car aircon needs regassing?
If your car’s AC isn’t cooling as well as it used to, is blowing warm air, making strange noises, or has a musty smell, it’s time to book in for a car aircon service. You may just need an AC regassing, or there may be something else at play. Either way, Auto Master technicians will get it sorted and get you back on the road ASAP.
Why is my car air conditioning blowing hot air?
Over time, the air conditioning gases in your car will escape from the AC system. This is because all car air conditioning systems leak over time: Car engines vibrate, pipe connections move, and the rubber rings expand and contract to allow leakage. This leakage can get worse when the air-con is not used during the winter months, thus allowing the small O ring seals to dry out – resulting in a gradual deterioration in aircon performance. If this continues, eventually the system will not be able to function at all. This is when you’ll notice warm air or even hot air blowing from the vents. Time for a car air con regas!
Why does my car air con smell bad?
Foul smells coming from the car air conditioner may be caused by a build-up of bacteria. As your car ages (or when the air conditioning systems are used infrequently), bacteria, micro-organisms, mould and fungus can start growing behind the dash panel on the evaporator. This build up can some very unpleasant odours carried on the air coming out of your system, which isn’t ideal for drivers or passengers in the vehicle. Some people claim this can result in headaches and flu-like symptom sometimes referred to as “sick car syndrome”; in any case it makes driving a lot less pleasant. Fortunately, this can be solved by using an anti-bacterial treatment that destroys the bacteria growth in automotive air conditioning systems, getting rid of any smells and the general mustiness that can occur. Much better for your car – and for yourself.
Why does my car lose grip when braking?
This may also be due to brake fluid or brake booster issues, but the most common reason is needing new brake pads. If you find your car pulls just to the one side, your brake pads are likely showing signs of uneven wear. This can also be caused by misaligned wheels, so it’s best to fix this quickly.
What causes a hard brake pedal?
If your brake pedal feels ‘hard’ when you apply pressure, it could be several things; a failing vacuum pump or power steering pump, a cracked vacuum hose, a seized caliper, even sludge in the brake lines. Stiff brakes can also be caused by a vacuum leak affecting the brake booster pressure, which stops the brakes from working properly. The leaking part would require replacement to fix the issue.
What does the brake warning light mean?
This is your very literal warning sign that your car brakes need checking right away. If your brake warning light comes on and stays on, it could be due to needing a parking brake adjustment, having worn brake pads, or even indicating hydraulic issues. If the light is on only when you hit the pedal, it could mean you have very low brake fluid in the master cylinder – or, you may have hydraulic pressure loss on one side of the vehicle. Either way, don’t delay getting your brake system checked out.
What is included in a standard car service?
At Auto Masters we will check your oils and fluids and replace your oil filter and replace engine oil. We will also do a comprehensive 72 point check to test and measure items on your vehicle for safety. You will be provide with a full vehicle condition report. This gives you unbeatable peace of mind; you can drive away knowing everything’s taken care of, right down to the last detail.
How often should I get my oil changed?
Knowing when to change your oil is tricky because there isn’t a one-size-fits-all solution. Different cars and engines require different maintenance schedules. It also depends on your diving habits and conditions. The new rule (and perhaps the one that makes the most sense) is that you consult your vehicle’s manufacturer recommendations. If in doubt, give your local mechanics at Auto Masters a call and we will advise you.
After how many kms should I get my oil changed?
There are a lot of variables that go into the distance you can travel before changing your oil. Firstly, your vehicle make and model – plus driving habits, conditions on the roads you regularly drive, what kind of oil you used last time. While some might follow the general rule of thumb of getting an oil change every 10,000km – 15,000km, the most accurate way (and the way that makes the most sense) to determine it is by consulting your vehicle’s manufacturer recommendations. If you’re not sure when you need to get your oil changed next, contact your local Auto Masters and our friendly team will advise you.
